Vans x Crayola Create Colorful New Licensed Products Collection

2022’s Most Colorful Licensing Partnership: Vans x Crayola

Two of my favorite brands, Vans and Crayola, have come together yet again for what I refer to as a “perfect fit” colab. Twelve years after their first partnership, the brands are getting back together with the much bigger and more explosively-colorful Vans x Crayola Capsule Collection. If you’re a kid or an adult like me who has no problem slipping on a pair of colorful kicks, you’ll love what these two brands have done this time!

They’ve packed a ton of color into the most iconic Vans footwear, including the Vans Authentic, Vans Old Skool, Vans Classic Slip-On, the Vans Sk8-Hi Sport and the ComfyCush Sk8-Hi. Among them you’ll find repeat patterns of coloring book artwork that you can color yourself, as well as floral patterned uppers and iconic Vans textured rubber soles that look like they’re made from melted Crayola crayons.

Apparel and accessories complete the colorful collection

But, the collection doesn’t stop at your feet. The colab continues with cotton t-shirts, long sleeve tees and hoodies with beautifully-design, hand-illustrated design elements and compositions that had to have been created with actual crayons, backpacks with crayon-textured floral prints and the iconic Vans checkerboard pattern made from crayon scribbles, as well as socks, hats and totes.

The design aesthetic for this collection perfectly combines the attitude of Vans with the bold color and texture of Crayola, which is evident on every product and in every graphic, and conveyed concisely through the Vans/Crayola logo lockup. The classic design of the Crayola crayon and its paper wrapper are found throughout the collection as characters, as graphic elements and my personal favorite… the two straps on the kids’ Old Skool V CRs.

Questions:

  • What are your thoughts on this new Vans x Crayola collaboration? Where does this particular collection rank, in your opinion among the many successful Vans collaborations?
  • What are your thoughts on the design aesthetic? Is it too colorful? Is it too youthful to wear as an adult?
  • What’s your favorite product from the collection?
