NFL Rush Zone Packaging
The National Football League engaged our team to develop the packaging program for the NFL Rush Zone, an action-adventure animated television series that aired on Nickelodeon from 2011 through 2014. In the first season, the show centered on an 11-year-old football fan named Ish, who learns he must protect shards of a power source called “The Core”, hidden at 32 NFL stadiums.
Our objective for the packaging program was to create a unified look that would work for both generic NFL Rush Zone products and team-specific products sold in each NFL market and easily extend across blister card, closed box, window box, hang tag and a variety of other packaging formats.
Our solution for the packaging program establishes consistent design architecture that incorporates equitable design elements from the show intro – animated Xs and Os that simulate football plays – along with a montage of the key characters. A lockup that includes the NFL Rush Zone logo and a high-tech digital rendering of a stadium interior and gridiron in tones of bright cyan serves as the overall background of the package design system.
The system for generic products incorporates a neon green honeycomb pattern in the lower right corner of the package design, while the product/descriptor area picks up the silver from the NFL Rush Zone logo. On the team-specific variation, the lower right corner of the package design changes to team colors along with the team’s primary mark, the product descriptor area changes to team colors, and the team’s “rusher” character is incorporated into the design architecture along with the main characters.
