When Nickelodeon embarked on an update to the licensing program for the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, they worked with our team to develop a series of “retro-themed” design elements for their core and trend-oriented style guides.
For the core guide, we established a graphic approach that takes cues from design trends of the 1980’s, while staying true to the property’s animation style. We utilized a color palette of muted tones and leveraged various “aging” techniques to give these design elements a genuine vintage appeal. Key phrases from the show and messaging that relates to character-specific attributes brings further authenticity to this licensing program.
For the trend-oriented guide, we incorporated the characters into an ’80s rock ‘n roll theme. Inspiration derived from concert t-shirts, posters, album covers and band logos from the arena rock era.
