The Nut Job 2
Our team was sought out by South Korean-based Redrover, Co., Ltd. to develop the licensing program style guide for The Nut Job 2, the sequel to the globally successful animated feature film, The Nut Job, which hit theaters here in the U.S. on August 11, 2017.
This particular style guide was a comprehensive endeavor for our team. We evaluated the guide from the previous film, along with work-in-progress on the new film, to understand the equitable assets of the franchise. We also conducted market research to uncover graphic trends being employed by competitive brands to appeal to the same target audience. We leveraged our findings from this pre-design research to establish the creative strategy for the entire licensing program for The Nut Job 2 to ensure that all design assets would have a common visual language.
Before beginning design development, we assisted Redrover’s digital artists by providing pencil sketched poses for them to refer to as they created all CG character artwork. We then designed a broad variety of badges, patterns, borders, type treatments and iconography, as well as the licensed product packaging program, which features a blister card, closed box, window box and two different hang tag variations. Lastly, we designed the style guide itself, which is inspired by the ramshackle amusement park featured in the film.
