Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Packaging
Our design team was engaged by Character Arts, the exclusive licensor for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer® to create the licensed product packaging program for the original television classic as it heads toward the celebration of its 60th anniversary in 2024.
Before we began the development of the packaging program, we created the celebratory Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 60th Anniversary logo, which leverages a silver beveled border and the font used in the film’s title treatment to tie-in visually with the property logo.
Our design solution begins to tell the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by establishing package design architecture inspired by the winter landscape from the film’s opening scene, which incorporates an ornate “swirling wind” pattern to serve as a backdrop in subtle tones of blue. The scene, which is depicted as a stylized, illustrated interpretation of the film’s snowy hills and trees, is capped with a bold, red header and horizontal beveled bar that anchors the centered property logo. Stylized artwork of Rudolph wearing a scarf appears on the front panel to endorse every licensed product, while Santa, Hermey and Bumble appear on the side panel. The package design is completed with a bold, red footer and the 60th Anniversary logo in the lower left corner of the front panel.
The standardization guidelines document for the packaging program first introduces licensees to the package design assets, then presents templates for the blister card, window box, closed box, header card and hang tag formats, along with step-by-step instructions for licensee partners to follow for design implementation.
